Many tinnitus patients are told there is no tinnitus cure, and that you “just have to live with it.”
Your tinnitus can be addressed and your symptoms can be significantly improved.
Dr. Rohe of Tinnitus & Hearing Center of Arizona has dedicated his practice and built his reputation as a nationally-recognized tinnitus specialist and audiologist. After training with thought leaders and world-renown physicians, neurologists, and audiologists, he has extensively studied the relationship between the ear and the brain, and has built his own effective tinnitus solution by utilizing the neurological and psychological connections.
Dr. Rohe is currently the only audiologist in the US that is trained and experienced in both audiology and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, making him uniquely qualified to address all aspects and options for your tinnitus treatment.
After years of study and practical experience in treating patients with tinnitus through methods such as CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy), Dr. Rohe has designed his own highly effective program that he has trademarked, called “The Rohe Method ®.”
Introducing The Rohe Method® - Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Tinnitus
From Dr. Rohe: “My tinnitus clinic is really unlike any other tinnitus clinic operating in the United States. I have and continue to receive extensive training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) from The Beck Institute in Philadelphia, PA. My clinic has paved the way towards a new type of tinnitus management in the United States: combining my expert knowledge of tinnitus with the powerful benefits of CBT to significantly mitigate your tinnitus symptoms.
Now you can work with one professional harnessing the power of two professions. I have personally trained with Dr. Aaron Beck, the founder of CBT, as well as his daughter Judith Beck and their exceptional team of CBT experts. I offer an intensive eight session program designed to systematically train you how to desensitize your nervous system and manage your tinnitus in a highly effective manner: Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Tinnitus - The Rohe Method ®. This is tinnitus management that provides you with real tools and a comprehensive step-by-step approach to promote enduring relief. Our patient satisfaction is unparalleled.
The way that many people are trying to deal with tinnitus is to mask it with a sound that’s just trying to cover their tinnitus. They’re not really trying to deal with the core problem. And if you don’t deal with it head on, that problem never goes away. You have to turn the sound mask off at some point. If your ears are still ringing, then you’re still suffering. You don’t want to be like that for the rest of your years. In my view, the most effective tinnitus treatment therapy hits it head on in this way: retrain the brain, desensitize the nervous system from the sound, and emotionally separate the patient from the sound.
How is that possible? We can deal with any sound. People do it everyday in Chicago, New York, noisy cities. You don’t see people going crazy with the jackhammers, or the sirens, the car horns, and the people yelling. Elevated trains that go right by the apartments. You don’t see people moving out because they can’t handle the loudness of the trains. They’ve learned to decouple the emotion from the sound. You’ve trained your brain to get used to it. It’s taken on a signal of neutral, according to the brain, and if it’s neutral, it doesn’t get a rise out of you. It can’t get a rise out of you because there is no emotional significance to it. With tinnitus, there is an emotional significance: 'I hate it. I want to get rid of it.' That’s emotion. Hate is an emotion.
And that’s the hard part: to get the patient to become emotionally neutral to a sound that they hate. But I can accomplish that with a patient. I give you guided steps to systematically, over time, desensitize your nervous system from the sound. So eventually, people get back to sleep. Half of my patients have insomnia and can’t sleep. The tinnitus sound is keeping them up all night. Half the people aren’t sleeping, the other half are sleeping, so they’re arguably free from their tinnitus for eight hours. And then some people are hearing it all day and all night. Other people are distracted at work during the day, but extremely bothered at night.
My program is designed to treat all of that, regardless of what the source is causing your tinnitus. If you’ve gone through a car accident and a horrible whiplash injury, we can treat that. If you have a pulsatile tinnitus, we can treat that. If you have ringing because you’re in a rock band, we can treat that as well. It doesn’t matter the source. If you have horrible TMJ, and the TMJ is causing your tinnitus, we can still address the brain in the same way.
The bottom line is that there is hope, and I’ve been very successful in helping patients regain control and enjoy their lives again.”
