tinnitus treatment in tempeStop the Ringing in Your Ears & Start Leading a Full Life Again

If you or someone you love suffers from tinnitus, Dr. Rohe offers several therapies to mitigate and alleviate the anxiety associated with the constant ringing in the ears. Tinnitus is defined as a perception of sound where no external source is present and is often described as a ringing, whistling, buzzing, or humming sensation in the ear(s) or head region. Tinnitus treatment in Tempe, AZ begins with reassigning our emotional response to the phantom sounds or ringing and regaining control of it through the mind.

The Rohe Method®

Dr. Rohe is uniquely qualified to address all aspects and options for your tinnitus treatment. He is well trained in the primary methods used in treatment: Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Desyncra, he has combined the most effective elements of all of them into his own trademarked therapy: The Rohe Method®. The Rohe Method® is an extended 4-6 month program of robust counseling and education that addresses the anxiety, insomnia, fear, and frustrations that accompany tinnitus. It is designed to systematically train you on how to desensitize your nervous system and manage your tinnitus in a highly-effective manner: This is tinnitus management that provides you with real tools and a comprehensive step-by-step approach to promote enduring relief.

Since 2002, we have transformed the lives of over 35,000 patients with our evidence-based treatment. The Rohe Method® is a unique hearing program that ties together hearing loss, brain function, and emotional difficulties from feeling isolated.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)

Dr. Rohe has personally trained with the founder of TRT, Dr. Pawell Jastreboff, in order to deliver the exact standard of care required for TRT to work. To understand TRT fully, let’s look at the two components of tinnitus:

  • The actual sound – usually perceived as a ringing sound, but can also be perceived as a hissing, buzzing, whistling, clicking, or swooshing sound
  • The emotional reaction – the perception of the character of the sound, its loudness level, and its impact on everyday life

The effective treatment of tinnitus requires addressing both of these components through a combination of external sound therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which both combine to create the essence of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT is designed to focus on the present and is ideal for the more time-limited, and more problem-solving oriented patients. Much of what the patient does is “solve” the current problem – their reaction to tinnitus, which is usually anxiety, fear, or stress. As part of practicing CBT to address their tinnitus, patients learn specific cognitive skills that they can use for the rest of their lives that involve identifying distorted thinking, modifying beliefs and reactions, practicing different ways of relating to others, and changing behaviors.

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy for Tinnitus is a program that is designed to change the patterns in the neuronal networks and reduce the distressing symptoms of tinnitus, including loudness and annoyance.

The brain’s auditory cortex has an organizational structure according to the frequency or pitch of sounds that it perceives, ranging from low to high pitches. Sound therapy is designed to disrupt this synchronization by introducing therapeutic and matched tones to the user. This pitch-matching process works in cooperation with the brain to target the therapy to the hyperactive region in the auditory cortex.

The Levo System by Otoharmonics

Utilizing an FDA-cleared neuroscience-based approach, the Levo System is a personal and patented nightly sound therapy designed to improve the quality of your daily life.

Tinnitus, while perceived in the ear, actually occurs in the brain. When the delicate hair cells inside the cochlea are damaged or over–stimulated, the result is tinnitus. To date, there is no cure for this condition. The number of people affected is growing fast and statistics show that one in five people suffer from tinnitus. Tinnitus is also the leading “souvenir” that veterans retain from service.

Although tinnitus is often described as ‘ringing in the ears’, the variety of sounds and combinations that people perceive are as widespread as the condition. The onset and cause is as varied as the sounds people hear. Regardless of how it began and what it sounds like, tinnitus can range from a bothersome condition to a debilitating one, impacting not only the day–to–day lives of the individuals affected, but their families and loved ones as well.

This is where the Levo System comes in. Through a series of interactive activities, the precise sound of your tinnitus will be identified, giving you the means to understand and demonstrate to others the sound you live with. Your unique sound is then used to create an individualized therapy for you to use at home while you sleep.

User-friendly, patented Levo software on a provided Apple iPod Touch will allow you to listen to your personalized sound match at home. Custom fit ear buds, designed to ensure comfort during sleep, allow for optimal positioning and controlled delivery of sound therapy. Used nightly, you will be able to share your individualized progress and determine needed improvements over time.

Utilizing an FDA-cleared neuroscience-based approach, the Levo System is a personal and patented nightly sound therapy designed to improve the quality of your daily life.

Unlike traditional maskers and/or sound generators, only the Levo System:

  • Is specifically designed for use during sleep when the brain is especially responsive to habituation
  • Can identify the unique tinnitus sound of each individual
  • Allows you to hear the sound the patient lives with
  • Has FDA clearance, CE mark, CSA certification and ISO 13485 2013 Edition
  • Tracks patient use and response to therapy using smart technology
  • Exclusively integrates the Tinnitus Functional Index to measure and monitor tinnitus impact
  • Uses custom ear buds & Apple digital devices

Through a series of interactive activities, the precise sounds of your tinnitus are identified, giving you the means to understand and demonstrate to others the sound you live with. This sound is unique to you and is used to create an individualized therapy for you to use at home while you sleep.

Like ‘defragging’ a computer’s hard drive, the brain efficiently reorganizes itself while we sleep. Selectively removing the unnecessary bits of information, our brain prioritizes new and stored information to lock in learning and memory. As a result, new neural connections are created, rerouted or reduced to make way for new learning and problem solving activities. By using the Levo System at night, patients leverage the brain’s natural ability to diminish the effects of tinnitus over time.

User-friendly Levo software allows patients to listen to their personalized sound match on an Apple iPod touch®.  Personalized, custom fit ear buds, designed to ensure comfort during sleep, allow for optimal positioning and controlled delivery of sound therapy. Used nightly, patients can share their individual progress with their hearing professional to determine needed improvements over time.
